Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Traction is a personal productivity application developed by Dr. Venumadhav Korampally, Professor of Electrical Engineering at Northern Illinois University. The app is available at gettractionapp.netlify.app.

2. What data we collect

When you create an account and use Traction, we collect:

• Account information — your email address and encrypted password, stored securely via Supabase authentication
• App data — goals, schedule blocks, focus session logs, journal entries, and semester settings you create within the app
• Calendar data — if you connect Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook, we access your calendar events only to display them alongside your Traction schedule. We do not store calendar events on our servers.
• Usage data — basic app interactions (e.g. Pomodoro session counts) stored as part of your app data

We do not collect: payment information, location data, device identifiers, browsing history, or any data beyond what is necessary to operate the app.

3. How we use your data

• To provide and sync your personal productivity data across your devices
• To display your calendar events alongside your schedule (calendar integration only)
• To power AI-assisted features when you provide your own Anthropic API key

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the app for you.

4. Data storage and security

Your app data is stored in Supabase, a secure cloud database platform. Each user's data is protected by Row Level Security — only you can access your own data.

• Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
• All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS encryption)
• Calendar tokens (Google/Microsoft OAuth) are stored only in your browser's local storage and are never transmitted to our servers
• Your Anthropic API key is stored only in your browser's local storage

5. Calendar integrations

Google Calendar: When you connect Google Calendar, Traction requests permission to read and write your calendar events (calendar.events scope). This allows us to display your Google events in the schedule view and push Traction blocks to your Google Calendar. We do not store your Google Calendar data on our servers. Your OAuth token is stored locally in your browser only.

Microsoft Outlook: When you connect Outlook (personal Microsoft accounts), Traction requests Calendars.ReadWrite and User.Read delegated permissions. The same local-storage-only policy applies. We do not store calendar data on our servers.

You can disconnect either calendar integration at any time from the Settings page, which revokes access immediately.

• Supabase — database and authentication (Privacy Policy)

• Google — Google Calendar OAuth and Google Fonts (Privacy Policy)
• Microsoft — Outlook Calendar OAuth (Privacy Statement)
• Anthropic — AI features, only when you provide your own API key (Privacy Policy)

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party beyond what is necessary to operate the above services.

7. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access — export all your data at any time via Settings → Export backup
• Delete — delete your account and all associated data via Settings → Reset all data, or by emailing us
• Correct — update your data directly within the app at any time
• Disconnect — revoke calendar access at any time from Settings

8. Children's privacy

Traction is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will delete the account immediately.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of Traction after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
